A drawing of Mars made on January 21, 1997 (Ls=67.68, De=22.64) at 08:20 UT (CM=228.7) by Carlos E. Hernandez (A.L.P.O. Mars Recorder) using an 8-inch (20-cm) f/7.5 Newtonian reflector at 305x and 492x as well as Wratten 23A, 38A, and 64 filters. The North Polar Cap (NPC) appears brilliant (10/10) surrounded by a dark (3/10) collar consisting of Panchaia, Lemuria, Uchronia, and Cecropia, from p. to f. Casius appears as a dusky (4/10) wedge-shaped albedo feature projecting south from Utopia over an extremely bright (9/10) Isidis Regio-Neith Regio region that apparently connects to an equally bright morning limb haze (MLH). Elysium is visible towards the terminator, or p. limb, whose p., or eastern, half is obscured by a very to extremely bright (8-9/10) oval-shaped cloud and f., or western, half appears shaded (6/10). The Elysium cloud appears to connect to an extremely bright (9/10) evening limb haze (ELH). The Trivium Charontis-Cerberus (I) complex (3/10) is visible Sp. Elysium, Eunostos I (3-4/10) Sf., the Hyblaeus extension (3/10) Nf., and Chaos north of Elysium. A dusky (4/10) Cebrenia is visible north of Elysium. Mare Cimmerium is visible (3/10) towards the southern limb p. the CM with Tritonis Sinus at it's (3/10) f. end. A darkened (3/10) Mare Tyrrhenum appears to be separated from Mare Cimmerium by a very bright (8/10) Hesperia that apparently connects to a very bright (8/10) Libya-Isidis Region region. Syrtis Major appears as a thin, dark (3/10) wedge-shaped albedo feature flanked by brighter regions. The southern limb appears to be obscured by an extremely bright (9/10) southern limb haze (SLH).
